From the 5th floor of the Hartz Building, LearnCom savors the view of the Broadway Avenue Historic District.
LearnCom was established to focus on providing eLearning solutions for training, performance and compliance issues. The company quickly became a recognized force in the e-learning market. In 2007, LearnCom opened its new offices in downtown Detroit in the historic Hertz Building right around the corner from Comerica Park.
LearnCom follows established instructional systems design (ISD) principles for creating online training course content for adults as well as creates and produces the rich media assets required by interactive, multimedia learning products.
The success of LearnCom is directly attributable to the talent and experience of its core staff. Not only does LearnCom offer decades of combined experience in the field of computer based training, but LearnCom staff also possesses a variety of additional experience in the fields of sales, marketing, finance, education, fine arts, and information technology.
CEO and President
Rick Ghersi has over thirty years of business experience. Rick spent the first eight years of his career as a Financial Credit Analyst and Commercial Loan Executive for two of Detroit’s leading financial institutions. In these positions Rick analyzed the financial conditions and management capability of many businesses and entrepreneurs.
Rick started TVS Communication Solutions in 1991 as a minority shareholder. TVS supplies large corporate clients with a variety of communication services including: satellite events, staged events, video and audio production. Under Rick’s management over the next five years TVS achieved significant growth and Rick assumed full ownership of TVS. Today, he remains President and CEO as well as majority owner of TVS.
Seeing the inevitable shift in the marketplace and among TVS clients from analog communications to digital communications, in the spring of 2007 Rick created a new and separate entity to serve those needs, LearnCom, LLC. Located in the heart of Detroit, LearnCom specializes in interactive, multimedia communications and e-learning.
Rick has other business interests, including several in Detroit. He received a B.A. in Financial Administration from Michigan State University and is a resident of Detroit.
Business Development and Sales
Chuck Cameron has over 40 years of business experience in field service, sales, marketing, business development, coaching and training at all levels.
Chuck spent 30 years in the paints/coatings industry, from manufacturing to service, to sales. He managed laboratories, sales teams and marketing groups, developing leadership and problem solving skills. While responsible for global sales to a major international chemical supplier, his business skills further developed.
Chuck took advantage of corporate downsizing to move from the automotive world into training, as Vice President of a successful sales training organization. He spent several years coaching with a national Career Transition company.
He has been responsible for Business Development at LearnCom for 3 years, working with Corporate, Organizational and Law Enforcement decision-makers to identify, then meet challenging training objectives using cost-saving technology.
Chuck has a Bachelors degree from Wayne State University, focusing on Pre-Medical. The training in Chemistry led to a long, rewarding career. He is married, and a proud grandfather of 7. He is active in charitable projects, focusing on children in America and Africa.
Technology, Programming and Software Development
Shelton has over thirty years experience in the computer and training businesses. Shelton spent seventeen years with Unisys Corporation (Burroughs Corporation) in various sales and marketing positions. In 1991, Shelton left Unisys and joined Technology Applications Group (TAG) in Troy, MI. At TAG, Shelton designed and developed training applications. Some accomplishments included the design and development of an authoring tool that was used to produce training for Ford Interactive Paint Training, Chrysler Powder Coat Training, Ford Die Skills Training and several kiosk projects.
In 1998, Sequoia, Inc. of Auburn Hills purchased TAG. Shelton continued to design interactive training and began designing and developing Web sites. In addition, Shelton spent a year on site at the State of Michigan providing project management services. Shelton joined the Learning & Interactive Group of TVS Communication Solutions of Troy, MI in 2003 leading development teams on projects for Mopar, DaimlerChrysler Academy, DaimlerChrysler Service and Parts, DaimlerChrysler Human Resources, and Kelly Services. The TVS Learning & Interactive Group in turn became LearnCom, LLC, in 2007, where Shelton directs technical development efforts for projects including the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Shelton holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University and an M.S. in Management from Central Michigan University.
Director, eLearning and Communications
Kathy has over 25 years of experience in the media communications and training/learning field. In 2001, she was hired by Convergent Media to be the on-site Executive Producer/Project Manager at Volkswagen of America. She utilized project management techniques, writing and creative digital media production skills to create interactive training for numerous Volkswagen and Audi departments. She was in charge of web-based delivery of SCORM compliant projects for Audi dealer sales staff, technicians and all levels of management. For four years she was the project manager and director for the monthly Volkswagen Group of America COO video messages and live web streamed all-employee meetings throughout the U.S. and Canada. She has worked on automotive warranty and technical training projects as well as corporate communications, compliance notifications, after sales, sales, and service process training. Kathy is the recipient of numerous national and international awards, including an Emmy Award for her video work. For the past four years, Kathy has worked at LearnCom in Detroit, MI developing and designing custom eLearning courses as well as the implementation of learning management systems for major corporations. Kathy holds a B.A. in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and a Master’s degree in Human Performance Improvement and Instructional Design from the University of Michigan – Dearborn.
Senior Graphic and Web Designer
Dave is LearnCom's senior graphic and web designer. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Alma College, Alma, MI, where he developed a solid background of art fundamentals to utilize across his nearly-twenty years experience in multimedia development.
Prior to LearnCom, Dave was the in-house graphic designer at TVS Communication Solutions. Before TVS, Dave was an interface designer with Analysts International, Sequoia Services Group, in Auburn Hills, MI and a graphic technician for Colorquik Graphix in Novi, MI. An expert with software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Hype and more, Dave also displays strong skills with modern web technologies, especially HTML5 and CSS3.
Drawing from this wide-ranging background of education and experience, Dave is uniquely comfortable designing for web-based as well as print solutions. His greatest expertise lies in user interface, web, and interactive design, supported by strong user experience and brand identity skills. His pervading goal is to find creative solutions for visual and technological problems. When not working, Dave is probably watching baseball.
The moment that her mother unpacked her very first Commodore 64 Michelle watched in awe as her mom typed Print “Hello” and it printed Hello! For a moment she wondered, “Well, why not just type 'Hello' and skip the rest?” Nonetheless, this is where her fascination with computers and programming began. After tireless questions about how and why and what else can it do, her mom handed her a stack of books … the fascination ended. Never one to back down from a challenge she eventually picked up that stack of books.
Today, Michelle is the newest addition to the LearnCom team, with over 10 years of development experience, she saw LearnCom as an exciting, innovative company on the cutting edge of eLearning. Michelle holds a B.S. in Business Management/eBusiness and is currently in the final stretch of her M.S. in Technical and Professional Communication.
Joe is an Instructional Adventurist who have a passion for applying assessment, analytical, research, problem solving skills to training and program development. He continually researches the latest innovations and learning theories to support and enable people and organizations to effectively achieve their missions, goals, and objectives.
He is especially interested in using emerging technologies and learning interventions to enhance people's skills and knowledge to be active in the new economy.
